Sony's CineAlta 4K digital cinema projector systems, Ziris digital signage solution, HD standard LCD panels and plasma screens are transforming the cinema experience for audiences across Europe.

At a time when home entertainment solutions, such as HDTV and Blu-Ray are giving consumers stunning image quality from the comfort of their sofas, visitors to Sony’s stand at Cinema Expo 2008 will see how Sony’s latest CineAlta 4K digital cinema technologies provide venues with next-generation quality projection systems that meet the DCI’s forward looking 4K image standard and deliver an unrivalled viewing experience. Beyond the big screen, the stand will also showcase how Sony’s integrated AV/IT solutions for ticketing and concession areas can positively impact a cinema’s business and financial performance.

“With decades of experience in digital entertainment, we are passionate about designing innovative solutions that truly engage the cinema-going public and succeed in differentiating cinemas from the ever increasing dynamic of home entertainment. Sony understands that any visit to a cinema must be an experience from the minute the consumer enters the foyer and it must inspire them to come back time and again. Defining the right content and delivering it through the right channels in a timely and impactful way is critical to achieving this,” explained Eric Siereveld, Director, Sony Professional Solutions Europe.

Sony’s 4K workflow is the future of movie entertainment
On the big screen itself, Sony’s leading digital cinema technology is creating a major draw for consumers. Sony’s CineAlta 4K digital cinema projector system line-up has come to define the quality standard for digital cinema. With images that are four times that of standard high definition (2K) on home televisions, they are wowing audiences world-wide.

Sony’s SRX-R220 and SRX-R210 models are designed to comply with Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) standards for digital motion picture projection. They are versatile and can store and display 4K and 2K files, whether cinema films or alternative content. Any images projected in 2K (standard HD) are automatically upconverted to show a 4K image on screen.

Both projectors are easy to install as they fit in regular projection booths with standard window clearance, and can be operated in the same booth, side-by-side, with a film projector. Sony’s SRX-R220 projector can display images on screens up to 20m wide, and the SRX-R210 can accommodate a wide range of screens through a choice of lamp bulbs.

“From digital cinema production to projection, the future of cinema is a total 4K workflow,” added Sony’s Eric Siereveld. “But why stop the consumer’s enjoyment at just the big screen, when digital signage solutions can prolong their experience for that bit longer.”

From the customer’s point of entry and throughout a cinema venue, Sony’s Digital Signage solution comprises high resolution, versatile and durable plasma or LCD displays with its sophisticated Ziris™ suite of software for effective content management. With the ability to split screens, create show reels or deliver rolling information, cinema venues can enhance their brand and their audience’s experience, influence purchasing decisions and inform consumers by displaying film trailers and schedules, ticket offers and concession stand offers.

Sony’s Ziris suite is highly flexible as the software can work with audio, video, HD standard film, graphics, HTML and Flash from either PC or Apple Mac. Depending on the scale and sophistication of the content management required, the Ziris software range gives users the choice of an entry level Ziris lite solution through to the tailor-made Ziris Professional range.
