Toy Story and Toy Story 2 3D Double Feature to Debut on RealD
3D Cinema Technology
The famed Hollywood El Capitan Theatre in
Hollywood has been upgraded to 3D cinema leader RealDs
XL Cinema System in time for the highly anticipated debut
of Disney PIXARs Toy Story and Toy Story 2 Disney Digital
3D double feature beginning October 2nd.
Powered by RealD for 3D presentations since the release of
Disneys Chicken Little in 2005, the landmark El Capitan
Theatre is the highest attended RealD 3D theatre in the world.
The El Capitan is a state of the art
movie palace which has been equipped with RealD 3D technology
for many years, said Michael V. Lewis, chairman and
CEO of RealD. Upgrading to the industrys brightest
3D delivered by the XL Cinema System in time for Toy
Story and Toy Story 2 will help a new generation
of fans discover and fall in love with this classic franchise
and beloved characters in spectacular RealD 3D.
This fantastic double feature will
let moviegoers see two of their all-time favorite films from
Pixar Animation Studios in a way they have never seen them
before, said
Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
Group. Countless hours are dedicated to creating Disney
Digital 3D films and were excited audiences at the El
Capitan Theatre will experience every eye popping 3D effect
and feel like theyve stepped inside the movie through
RealD 3D.
RealDs award-winning XL Cinema System
delivers the industrys brightest 3D images to screens
and is the only digital 3D technology able to reach screens
up to 80 feet
wide using a single digital DLP® projector. Designed to
bring RealDs crisp, clear, world-class 3D experience
to large screen auditoriums, the RealD XL Cinema System
uses the same lamp and lamp power as a 2D presentation, saving
power and giving exhibitors added flexibility with the opportunity
to expand their 3D cinema offering to large auditoriums.
Originally released by Walt Disney Pictures
in 1995, Toy Story went on to receive Oscar nominations for
Original Screenplay, Original Score, and Original Song earning
Lasseter a Special Achievement Award for his inspired
leadership of the Pixar 'Toy Story' Team, resulting in the
first feature-length computer-animated film.
Toy Story 2 was released in 1999, and reunited voice talents
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, in their roles as Woody and Buzz.
The film became one of the most popular animated features
of all time, and received an Academy Award® nomination
for Original Song. Toy Story 3 in Disney Digital 3D is scheduled
for release in June 2010.
RealDs new generation 3D technology
is deployed across the worlds largest 3D cinema platform
with 9,000 screens under contract and nearly 4,000 screens
installed in 48 countries with over 300 exhibition partners.
RealD 3D is the market leading 3D cinema platform in territories
including North America, Latin America, Australia and Europe.
A bright spot for the entertainment industry, RealD 3D is
driving box office to the tune of three to four times per
screen revenue of the same film on 2D screens.
