With the increase in the number of 3D screens and 3D movies globally, more and more petroleum based plastic disposable eyewear is being used.
Oculus3D in conjunction with Look3D has developed an eco friendly alternative. The frames are made from Cereplast resin, a renewable, ecologically sound substitute for petroleum-based plastic products, developed from plant sources, instead of from fossil fuels.
Frames made from bio-based materials create a lower carbon footprint than frames made from traditional plastic.
All Cereplast Compostables resins are certified as biodegradable and compostable in the United States and Europe, meeting BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) standards for compostability (ASTM 6400 D99 and ASTM 6868), and European Bioplastics standards (EN 13432). Cereplast contains no GMOs.
Eliminating green house emissions
These days, 10 million pair of 3D glasses is but a fraction of the total used globally on a major studio 3D movie. 10 million pair of glasses using Cereplast Compostables will translate into savings about 728,000 Kgs. (728 metric Tons) of C02 emissions. To better understand the equivalency, 10 million pair of Cereplast based 3D glasses is equivalent to eliminating the greenhouse emissions from 74,039 gallons of gasoline or 1,536 barrels of oil.
Disposing of the glasses – Simply pop out the lenses and include the frames with your other compostables. The frames will biodegrade in a compost pile in less than 6 months, far more friendly than hundreds of years in a landfill. Alternatively, the frames may be recycled – check with your local recycler.
RealD has certified the glasses for use in theaters that have licensed their 3D systems.
Look3D is the approved manufacturer of the eco-friendly glasses. The glasses are available now. Various styles, including children’s sizes are forthcoming.
