Barco and Doremi Cinema Announce integrated 2K/4K media block at ShowEast
Barco and Doremi have announced an integrated 2K/4K media block designed for Barco Series-II projectors.
 
The solution offers exhibitors the opportunity to utilize a single server manufacturer across a digital cinema multiplex, with the ability to freely mix and match 2K and 4K technology while maintaining the same server hardware.
Marcus Theatres to Feature Kodak Digital Cinema in Omaha
Kodak Digital Cinema systems will be installed on all five screens of the four-level entertainment destination, scheduled to open on November 6. Systems will include several models of NEC projectors supplied by Ballantyne Strong who will handle projector installation.
Brussels plans tax on film distributors
The European Commission is considering imposing a fee on movie distributors to help fund the shift to digital cinema.
 
Brussels is openly looking at the US model, called Virtual Print Fee (VPF), which envisages that part of the money that is saved by distributors in shipping digital content rather than traditional 35mm print is paid to a third party which invests it in financing the conversion to digital cinema.

Alcons CR4 large format sound system - line-source technology in cinema sound
Based around Alcons' Digital Cinema sound system program, they have developed the CR4 large-format pro-ribbon cinema front system, specifically aimed at medium to large applications.
 
The first installations of the CR4 system includes the Pathé Cinemas Netherlands and Bergen Kino in Norway.

Latin America sees rapid growth of digital screens
Latin America has approximately 6% of the 2K DLP digital screens in the world. Almost 500 of these screens are situated in 19 territories. Nevertheless, just one year ago this region had only 0.7% of the digital screens in the world, with 50 2K digital projectors installed in just seven countries.

The Cologne digital cinema distribution platform Europe's Finest is offering nine festival successes from the current slate of Celluloid Dreams in DCI-compliant format for direct booking for European digital cinemas.
UK Government to Back National Film Centre
A new £166 million national film centre will be created in London, boosted by a Government cash injection. 

The Government pledged £45 million towards the state-of-the art project on the South Bank, expected to be built by 2015.
South African Film industry plead to MPs for help
Representatives of the South African film industry have complained to Parliament that they are staring de-industrialisation in the face.
 
The portfolio committee on trade and industry heard on Friday that thanks mainly to the global economic crisis advertising volumes were down 15 percent or more and there has been a severe drop in film investment.
Top Exhibitor to Install IMAX's Digital Projection System in Three Locations in the Netherlands
The deal includes the installation of IMAX's digital projection system in Rotterdam and Eindhoven, as well as a digital upgrade to the exhibitor's existing film-based IMAX theatre in Amsterdam.
 
The Amsterdam upgrade and new Rotterdam location are each scheduled to open in time for the December 17th IMAX(R) 3D release of James Cameron's Avatar in international markets.
