Digital Cinema building momentum as 3D drives market
There are 16,405 digital cinema screens around the world, an increase of 86.4 per cent on 2008, with further growth to come in 2010 as digital 3D pushes the market towards a 35mm-free cinema sector. This means that 14.8 per cent of the world's modern cinema screens are digitized, and 9,000 are also equipped with digital 3D (55 per cent of total digital screens).
Bow Tie Cinemas to Deploy Technicolor 3D
Technicolor has reached an agreement with New York City-based Bow Tie Cinemas to install Technicolor 3D in all Bow Tie locations on 25 of its 150 screens.

Technicolor 3D is a new 3D system for 35mm projectors, enabling exhibitors to equip theatres for 3D at a fraction of the cost of installing a digital 3D projection system.

Nordic Digital Alliance to Digitize Norwegian Screens as part of Film & Kino Rollout

Nordic Digital Alliance (NDA), the joint venture run by Arts Alliance Media and a Norwegian consortium of businesses, has been awarded the contract to roll out digital cinema across the largest region of Norway (the West region), as part of the nationwide rollout scheme run by Film & Kino.

Each screen will be installed with a DCI-compliant system, consisting of projector, server, and a Theatre Management Software package.

All systems are fully ready to work with 3D, satellite and 4k projection, and exhibitors can choose to upgrade their systems to include these options.
Great Escape Selects Christie Digital Cinema Projectors to Light Up 174 Screens
The 14th largest theater chain in North America, Great Escape has already installed twelve Christie projectors to support the premiere of "Avatar" in 3D; the rest will be in place before the summer.

The chain also contracted Christie Managed Services for round-the-clock support and maintenance.

GDC Delivers SA-2100 Digital Cinema Servers for Series 2 DLP Cinema Projectors

GDC Technology has introduced the new "S2 Upgrade" for all SA-2100 Digital Cinema Servers, the first digital cinema servers to be commercially deployed with the new generation of Series 2 DLP Cinema projector.

The S2 upgraded SA-2100 server features options for Integrated Media Block ("IMB") with selected Series 2 DLP Cinema projectors or external Media Block ("MB") that resides in the digital cinema server.
