Media analyst firm Screen Digest has released its
forecasts for key media markets in 2009.
3D driving digital cinema installations but the rest on
hold
Cinema remains the primary place to watch a movie
and that will continue in 2009 - as long as that movie
is good. Analysis of previous recessions suggests
that cinema does not suffer unduly, and anecdotal
evidence also indicates that audiences may reduce
the overall budget for their night out, cutting down on
travel options or concessions expenditure, rather than
eliminating the cinema ticket altogether.

Ballantyne of Omaha reported that its cinema products
distribution subsidiary, Strong Westrex Company,
Asia, has secured distribution rights for the NEC
Starus Line of digital cinema projectors for three
additional Asian territories.

on a new 8 screen, all digital cinema in Hannibal, MO
using the latest projectors and technology from Barco.
This is the first all digital theatre project for B&B
theatres, the 22nd largest theatre chain in the United

components.
Film companies say it takes about $1,500 to make a
film copy of a movie, Bedsaul said, so an independent
film company does not have the resources to make
3,000 copies. Digital film copies cost on average
about $30, but the independent companies don't have
the equipment to produce digital copies.
