CineForm®, Inc. today announced that HD and 2K versions of its CineForm Intermediate™ compression technologies have been selected by Cinemeta, Ltd, for source acquisition, storage, and digital projection for Cinemeta’s 300-theater digital cinema rollout that begins in India in 4Q07. CineForm is also announcing that it has developed a secure version of its compression technology called CineForm Secure™ based on 128-bit AES security encryption which Cinemeta is using for an additional layer of content protection.
Cinemeta is using CineForm encoder technology to compress digital scans of optical film prints, and also as its acquisition format for features originating in digital form. CineForm Secure may be optionally applied at the time of content acquisition, and can only be decoded by a certified CineForm Secure decoder. For theater distribution, CineForm Intermediate files will be sent to digital cinemas initially on hard drives and later through satellite delivery as Cinemeta expands the distribution architecture for its digital cinemas.
“Our digital cinema deployment plans are aggressive,” stated Raj Grover, President of Cinemeta, Ltd. “The India market requires a solution that guarantees the highest picture quality and also lower end-to-end system costs than emerging DCinema solutions. We approached CineForm nearly two years ago to discuss our unique design requirements. We were impressed with their flexible software design that not only delivers high image quality but also gives us a price point that allows us to deploy digital cinema to hundreds of theatres across India.”
“We’re enthused to have worked with Cinemeta for the last two years, and to be part of their forthcoming digital cinema deployment”, said David Taylor, CEO of CineForm, Inc. “Good partnerships work both ways, and our collaboration with Cinemeta amplifies this. CineForm Secure is the most visible of the features to result from our collaboration, but numerous feature and algorithm optimizations for digital cinema applications have now become standard within our products.”
CineForm compression technology was initially adopted in film and television post-production as the industry’s first compressed Digital Intermediate technology. Initially focused on Windows applications such as Adobe®‘s Premiere® Pro and After Effects®, Sony Vegas, and Autodesk Combustion, CineForm recently announced cross-platform compatibility when it began shipping for Intel-based Macs with support for Apple’s Final Cut Pro and Motion, Media 100, and other applications. Because CineForm’s compression technology offers excellent visual quality and eliminates the need for specialized hardware, it has recently been adopted inside digital cameras as an acquisition format as well as in Cinemeta’s forthcoming digital cinema deployment.
