Nordic Digital Alliance (NDA), the joint
venture run by Arts Alliance Media and a Norwegian consortium
of businesses, has been awarded the contract to roll out digital
cinema across the largest region of Norway (the West region),
as part of the nationwide rollout scheme run by Film &
Kino.
Film & Kino, the industry organisation for Norwegian cinemas,
recently announced the result of an open tender process for
organisations to carry out the conversion of all of Norways
cinemas to digital - the worlds first national non-commercial
digital cinema rollout. NDA will have responsibility for installing
76 screens across 56 different cinemas in the West region,
from Sokndal in the south to Rindal in the North, and including
all 5 screens of the prestigious Haugesund Kino.
Each screen will be installed with a DCI-compliant system,
consisting of projector, server, and a Theatre Management
Software package. All systems are fully ready to work with
3D, satellite and 4k projection, and exhibitors can choose
to upgrade their systems to include these options.
NDA will begin the installation of screens in the coming months,
working with both Hjalmar Wilhelmsen and Arts Alliance Media.
Oscar Hovland, CEO of Nordic Digital Alliance, said Film
& Kinos rollout scheme will be of huge benefit to
cinemas in Norway and the cinema-going public, and NDA is
delighted to be a part of this historic deal. Our years of
experience in digital cinema in Norway mean we are well placed
to work with cinemas to upgrade their equipment.
Film & Kino has signed Virtual Print Fee agreements with
five Hollywood studios, which will contribute towards the
cost of digitisation.
