In the first quarter of 2009, FTT installs digital 3D technology in a total of 22 screens in Central and Eastern Europe.
Following a successful start to the year 2009 with roughly 25 installations in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, digital 3D projection is facing its most successful year ever. At the beginning of April, for instance, FTT has equipped a total of 12 screens in Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia with digital 3D technology for Palace Cinemas group. Apart from projection and server technology from Barco and XDC, 3D systems of the company MasterImage are deployed, in principal. Moreover, another Real D system has been installed at Westend cinema in Budapest.
Thomas Rüttgers, general manager of FTT, said: “3D will be among the main subjects of discussion this year and we are happy to be given the opportunity to do this important step towards a digital deployment of some selected sites together with Palace Cinemas. According to Mr. Rüttgers these initial installations are pointing the way ahead to a large-scale digital rollout in Central and Eastern Europe.
The Kieft / Pawlowski cinema group also follows the current trend and decided to equip 4 sites in Czech Republic with digital projectors from Christie and Doremi servers as well as XpanD 3D systems in a first step. The cinemas in Hradec Kralove, Pardubice and Pilsen have already been equipped for the release of “Monsters vs. Aliens”, another site in Ostrava is expected to go into operation by the release of “Ice Age 3” on July 2nd. What‘s more, the group’s cinema centres in Hildesheim, Iserlohn and Schwerin (all in Germany) will each be equipped with one digital 3D system in the course of these first digital installations.
The cinema market in Romania is moving forward as well. Having opened the first fully-digital “Liberty Center” in Bucharest, Light Cinemas group is already planning another multiplex with digital cinema equipment in Oradea in summer 2009.
FTT takes account of the dynamic development of the cinema markets in Eastern Europe and opened a new subsidiary in Hungary, FTT Digital Cinema Kft., based in Budapest, on April 1st, 2009.
